A WHISTLE FOR WILD ROSE

I have added a working steam whistle to the original Wild Rose. It is made from thin wall brass tube as can be found in most shops that sell materials for modellers. The valve to blow the whistle is made from a chunk of square brass, together with the core from a Shrader type car tyre valve. It sits on the footplate, with the operating lever vertical.

For a closed cab locomotive, the lever is probably best arranged horizontally.

Hear the sound and longer and finally breathless as condensed water is cleared.

The zip file contains the drawings in three format. The drawing was produced with Turbocad version 5 TCW. I have saved in Autocad DWG format which can be read by other CAD programs. It is also saved as a Microsoft Word 97 DOC file for people who do not have access to a CAD program.

The whistle is fairly inconspicuous below the footplate (webcam view)

The whistle valve is to the right of the dummy reverser and brake handle. The operating lever is covered with heat shrink tube as an insulator.

Closeup to show the whistle installation. Note the copper pipe curving upwards to the whistle valve.

Wild Rose heads a train of wooden side tippers. No whistle in this picture, but it is nice to see some steam.
